Lausanne Tourisme develops its networks
Having developed a Lausanne City Guide iPhone app, Lausanne Tourisme is pursuing its multimedia campaign by launching new information platforms on social networking sites. Facebook and Twitter to start with, then YouTube and Flickr, will be the favoured channels, and others may follow. MyLausanne will offer a whole new dimension in communication thanks mainly to the instant and open sharing of information that is often unpublished or ahead of the official lausanne-tourisme.ch website. Tourists will not be the only ones to benefit, as local people will also be potential contributors and ambassadors for the Olympic Capital. After an initial phase of appealing to fans, Lausanne Tourisme will be one of the first offices to make full use of new social networking technologies, for its guests as much as for its service providers, with a channel of communication devoted to members and partners.

Fellini and Chaplin at the Elysée Museum
(Museum of Photography)
From 8 June to 28 August the Elysée Museum is staging Fellini, la Grande Parade. The exhibition explores the universe of one of the masters of 20th century cinema and reveals the sources that fed the imagination of this legendary figure. The renowned expertise of the Elysée Museum in safeguarding and developing heritage, its local presence and its international reputation have also persuaded the Chaplin family to hand over one of its most treasured possessions this year: the Chaplin photographic archive. The acquisition of this universally valued archive will enable the Elysée Museum to launch a comprehensive educational programme by creating an Ecole du regard (viewing school), as well as exhibitions and publications.

“Leading figures who have chosen Lausanne”
Pierre de Coubertin (1863 - 1937),
founder of the Olympic Games
Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the man who revived the Olympic Games, had already visited Lausanne several times before the First World War, came to live here permanently in November 1914 and went on to establish the headquarters of the International Olympic Committee in the city in 1915. From that point on, thanks to him, Lausanne played a leading role in the Olympic Movement; the city felt it was important to show him its gratitude by awarding him honorary citizenship of Lausanne on 22 July 1937. He was buried here and his heart was taken to Olympia.
