La Source School of Nursing Sciences (HEdS-La Source)
The point of reference for training in nursing
The HEdS-La Source, the world's first college for lay nurses, provides training at a high level which covers the human, scientific and technical aspects of the profession.
More than 800 students follow a variety of study programmes at the HEdS-La Source. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate courses designed to cater for health care professionals throughout their career (bachelor, CAS, DAS …).
The bachelor strand provides general training with a strong emphasis on practice. Postgraduate training courses are designed in partnership with other universities of applied sciences (HES) active in the fields of social and health care in French-speaking Switzerland, and with universities, institutions and practice facilities.
A policy of networking
The HEdS-La Source is at the heart of a network set up to research and promote the nursing sciences. At local level, it organises debates on topical issues, public presentations and conferences on issues of relevance and importance in the domain of health care. At international level, it actively cooperates with developing countries.
La Source is seeing a marked rise in the popularity of its "international exchange" programmes, which are of interest to students and faculty members alike. Students are nominated to take part in university summer camps (San Diego (USA), Boston (USA), Coimbatore (India), etc.), summer schools (Irvine (USA), Singapore), and exchange semesters in Laval (Canada) and in Beirut (Lebanon), etc.
Clinical research in the nursing sciences is one of the strong points of La Source. International collaborations with the United States (Baltimore) and India (Mangalore) allow researchers to expand the scope of their investigations, the purpose of which is to identify the best practices for delivering health care to people who are sick or at risk. La Source is the co-founder of the Knowledge Exchange for examples of best practices in nursing (Bureau d’Echange des Savoirs pour des pratiques exemplaires de soins - BEST) which helps to spread and implement scientifically documented best practices in nursing care in Lausanne.
