In Lausanne, the development of the city is bound up with major projects!
Lausanne is at the heart of a conurbation undergoing extensive development. A dynamic city with its sights firmly fixed on the future, Lausanne is preparing to face up to the challenges of tomorrow, particularly with regard to the economy and urban planning.
Different projects are tackling the following objectives:
- A new collaboration project in the Lausanne conurbation (the Plan d'agglomération Lausanne-Morges or PALM). Its principal aim is to halt urban spread and limit the growth of road traffic.
- An urban development project for Lausanne, which aims to modernise the city and make it more compact (Métamorphose). This project is being implemented around four lines of priority: the refurbishment of sports facilities in the town, the creation of an ecodistrict, the development of public transport and the participation of the local community.
- Other more timely projects, such as the construction of 3000 sustainable homes, the improvement of life in the district and the creation of multipurpose centres designed to breathe new life into the north of the city (AquaEcopôle), as well as the site of the Beaulieu Lausanne convention and exhibition centre.
- The m2, Switzerland's first automated metro system and the world's steepest metro, in service since the end of 2008, and other projects to upgrade public transport (tram, bus and restructuring of private transport).
