Must-see attraction: world-wide unique organ
In Switzerland’s biggest Gothic cathedral
Two ways of exploring the new organ in Lausanne Cathedral:
- Viewing of the instrument with commentary lasting from 75 to 90 minutes (in French, German or English for groups of a maximum of 50 people);
- Recital (with or without viewing of the instrument), according to a musical programme agreed in advance (for groups of a maximum of 500 people).
Inaugurated in December 2003, this organ is a unique instrument world-wide both in terms of design (thanks to the American organ builder Fisk and the Italian designer Giugiaro) and its technical features (French classic and symphonic, German baroque and romantic). The incumbent organist at Lausanne Cathedral, Jean-Christophe Geiser who is renowned internationally, guarantees the cathedral numerous amazing performances, excellently playing the 7000 pipes – which make this new organ a technological and musical masterpiece. One of Lausanne’s great attractions with the power to enthral young and old alike!
