Innovative, urban and unconventional, the Festival de la Cité is all about a unique artistic diversity and a distinct taste for new projects. From 5 to 10 July 2016.
Festival de la Cité
The programme includes drama, performances, dance, circus, concerts, readings and visual spectacles in an urban setting: to sum up, it will be unusual, enjoyable and unexpected in a welcoming and festive ambiance. This year, four leading places have been chosen to showcase the programme, namely: La Cité, La Riponne, La Sallaz and Ouchy. Take a look at our small selection of highlights.
In La Cité
Sanctum Garageum or Garage Shrine
Walk – or how to discover hidden treasures in the garages of La Cité
Walkers will be accompanied by Floriane Facchini and her team who literally knock on individual garage doors to discover what is hidden within. Forget about cars, that's not what a garage is for. Well, not always. Past experience shows that it could be used as a barber's shop, or by a dancer in a Swan Lake costume, or even by an actual mechanic...
Friday and Saturday at 16.00, 18.00 and 20.30 and Sunday at 16.00 and 18.00
Departure from Esplanade de la Cathédrale
Marvel at who and what we know
We all have a friend with slightly annoying habits, someone we can tease or who knows how to turn any situation into something funny. Those closest to us are at the heart of the show, they are mimicked and their character traits are exaggerated to the point of caricature: it's funny, in other words.
Thursday at 20.30, Friday and Saturday at 19.00, Place St-Maur
At la Riponne
Living and interactive installation or how to create an urban garden, a self-contained island in the city
This social installation will bloom where the tarmac finishes in Lausanne, creating a garden with plants picked in residents' homes. It's urban, green and interactive, since the temporary garden becomes a venue for meetings and open gatherings: concerts, discussions and debates, yoga, communal meals, etc…
Tuesday from 19.00 to midnight, Wednesday and Friday from 10.00 to midnight, Thursday and Sunday from 10.00 to 22.00 and Saturday from 11.00 to midnight, Arches of Pont Bessières.
Solar Sound System
Picnic to music: Two turntables, solar panels and four bikes: that's the Solar Sound System.
A futuristic sound machine. The electricity supply depends only on two reliable sources: the sun and your legs. Don't forget to bring your picnic!
From Tuesday to Saturday from midday to 14.00 in Place de Riponne and from 17.30 to midnight in Ouchy.
At La Sallaz
Circus or La Cosa or the art of cutting, throwing and juggling logs
Circus, wood, lots of wood, men with axes, all with rhythm and timing in a spectacularly funny poetic performance.
Tuesday 5 July and Wednesday 6 July La Sallaz – Clairière from 19.00 to 20.00
Dance - a taste of musical comedy
Liz Kinoshita finds herself stranded somewhere on Earth when air travel is disrupted by the eruption of the Eyjafjallajökullfic volcano... Carried away by the rhythm of tap-dancing and the emotion of songs inspired by musical comedies, Volcano shares the lifestyle of the globetrotters that we have become and the reflections that arise when an eruption keeps us grounded.
Thursday 7 and Friday 8 July, La Sallaz – Stage from 22.00 to 23.00
Afters in Tridel
Afters - Can you hear the call of the dance floor?
Situated a short walk from the M2 Sallaz stop, the Tridel factory is transformed into a club to host the after-parties of the festival on Friday and Saturday night. This otherwise inaccessible industrial hangar will be open to you for a weekend.
Ouchy: city on the beach
Interactive workshop for children – or the art of creation and construction
It's the invasion of little creations that will make everything small become large... with Marylaure Décurnex.
Wednesday to Sunday from 16.00 to 21.00, Place du Vieux-Port
Workshop for young and older children or make your own 45 rpm
Make your own limited edition record live, and take it away with you! You enter the disk-o-mat in the same way as a photo booth, you press the record button and sing, talk or make any noise you want into the microphone for about 1 minute.
– Wednesday to Sunday from 16.00 to 21.00, Place du Vieux-Port
3D sound installation or how to hear the sounds of the city of Cairo in the Lausanne metro
The metro station plays the role of actor, but the sound comes from elsewhere. From the city of Cairo. Conversations and sounds which are unfamiliar to your ears will immerse you in an atmosphere that is near and yet far away.
– Every day from 17.00 to 21.00, M2 station Ouchy Olympique
Juana Molina (Argentine)
Electro folk concert
Out-of-the-ordinary keyboard and guitar arrangements, an intoxicating mix for a cosmic concert and an unusual musical interlude.
- Thursday 7 July from 22:30 to 00:00
