Remember this date: July 31, 2006. From 8 o'clock that evening, as the city slips into the twilight, 127,444 candles will be lit by 950 volunteers at locations across Lausanne. It's the brainchild of an artist, Muma Soler, who has already lit up many other cities. The aim is to represent the ties that bind in the form of a true social sculpture on a public space - hence the call for some thousand people to come together in teams, comprising inhabitants, visitors, artists and political leaders, to light up flames which will cast shapes on the ground that evoke the link with the urban space which we share.
«Let's light up Lausanne!» was born from a desire to share an emotion that is collective, generous and ephemeral in such a way that it burns into the memory. This «horizontal firework show », on the eve of the Swiss National Festival on August 1, is already in the planning stage... so now is the time to sign up!
