Georges Simenon in the heart of Lausanne

A series of events organized from Thursday September 3 to Saturday September 5, 2009, in collaboration with the Festival Simenon des Sables d'Olonne (France), to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the death in Lausanne of Georges Simenon, creator of the famous Commissaire Maigret and one of the greatest novelist of the twentieth century. Four Events The Courthouse Chats: Simenon, Justice And The Press. Inspired by a similar event which takes place in June of each year during the Festival Simenon des Sabes d’Olonne, this series of eight conferences will be organized around four themes. Reacting to Simenon’s depiction of them in his novels, French ans Swiss judges, attorneys, policemen and journalists exchange their thoughts on their professions. The conferences will be presented by Mes Christian Bettex et Yves Burnand, and will take place in the Grande Salle known as «The Catafalque» of the Montbenon Courthouse, outside of which books by Simenon and the speakers will be sold and signature sessions organized by Payot SA. Simenon In The Movies.

Screenings of a selection of eight of the more than sixty films adaped from Simenon works will be screened.
(Cinéma Capitole and Swiss film archive, public projections for Frs. 10.- per person).

The Eye Of Simenon.

Revival of the January 2004 exhibition at the Musée du Jeu de Paume in Paris of a selection of the more than 3000 pictures taken by Georges Simenon during his travels between 1931 and 1935. (Palais de Justice de Montbenon, free).

Looking For Maigret.

In collaboration with UNIL, demonstrations by the Institut de Police scientifique de Lausanne. Just like CSI… learn how to compare shoe prints,  or how to decipher finger prints. (For kids 8 and older)

Dedication

As a part of « Simenon au cœur de Lausanne », french writer Pierre Assouline is due to be exceptionally the guest of Payot Libraire for public dedication of his new book Autodictionnaire Simenon. Sessions will take place on Thursday, Sept. 3th (Montbenon Law Courts, from 19:00 on) and Friday, Sept. 4th (Payot Bookstore Lausanne, Place Pépinet, 17:00 to 18:45), as well as Saturday, Sept. 5th (Payot Neuchâtel, 10:30 to 12:00, Payot Genève Rive Gauche 15:00 to 16h30).
