The World Union of Olympic Cities is an association for cities that wish to associate themselves with the Olympic Movement. It was founded by the city of Lausanne - the Olympic Capital, the city of Athens - host city of the first modern Olympic Games in 1896, and the International Olympic Committee.
To date, approximately 27 cities have joined the association with a mix of Olympic cities and cities harbouring Olympic ambitions.
Seminar on Legacy Planning
Potential models for legacy planning: The session will explore how a coherent plan for the legacy of the Games can lead to economic, social and environmental benefits. In particular the governance and financing of the organising committee will be examined to determine the best model for planning. Finally a preview of new international standards relating to sustainable event management will be provided.
The Seminar on Legacy Planning took place in Lausanne in May 2011.
