Situated on the lush university site in Dorigny, the Edouard Fleuret Library pavilion, which houses the collection of law books bequeathed by Fleuret, complements the Law Faculty building and is connected to it via a small footbridge. It was made in 1999 and 2000 by the architects Patrick Devanthéry and Inès Lamunière.
The long rectangular and very uncluttered single floor building stretches between two concrete slabs that form the ground and roof covering. The weight-bearing elements, concrete walls, are located in the middle of the building, supporting the library’s shelves. The free-standing perimeter is composed entirely of glass, creating a connection with the natural environment. Copper window frames and curtains give the pavilion a feeling of preciousness. It all overhangs on barely visible stilts, giving the impression that it is levitating. The building received the Distinction Romand d’Architecture in 2006.
