Lausanne Tourisme presents its summer walks

Lausanne Tourisme’s publications (“Lausanne Dicoveries”, “Excursions”, etc.) contain a variety of information about the thousand and one ways of exploring the town and its surroundings on foot or by bike. What’s on offer in 2009, however, is dominated by two new features that are certain to interest the people of Lausanne as much as its guests: a guided audio walking tour and walks in Lavaux.

chosen location. You can choose from three routes, each taking one hour and 15 minutes: “Nature in Town” (from Lake Sauvabelin to the city gates), “Historical and Modern Centres” (from the city to the station via Flon) and “By the Shores of Lake Geneva” (from the station to Ouchy via the Olympic Museum).

In addition, two new walks are offered in the Lavaux vineyard, a listed UNESCO World Heritage site. Lasting around two hours, they wind their way down from Grandvaux station before reaching the shores of the lake (at Cully or Lutry). The gentle paths, dotted with numerous explanations about the places, are an excellent way of discovering this ancestral vineyard in its many different aspects: history, architecture, geology, viticulture, vine varieties, appellations, places of refreshment and opportunities to sample some of the wines...

This summer promises to be very exciting for all those who love discovering Lausanne “pedibus cum jambis”, and greener than ever! The multitude of events, thanks in no small part to the new m2 metro line and the “Lausanne Gardens 2009” programme, has given rise to several guided walks by Pierre Corajoud (“Along the m2” and “Two kitchen garden walks”) as well as other walking itineraries offered by various organisations.
