CANCELLED -- From May 8 to 24, 2020, Switzerland will become a showcase for international ice hockey. With the strapline “Let’s Make History.
History will be written next spring when the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship returns to Switzerland after eleven years! From May 8 to 24, 2020, Zurich and Lausanne will be welcoming the world’s top-16 countries in ice hockey such as all-time record winner Canada, Olympic champion Russia, and reigning world champion Finland. With the strapline “Let’s make history,” they will be treating Switzerland to a festival of ice hockey in a class of its own. The games will be played in the well-known, legendary Hallenstadion, home stadium of ZSC Lions, and in the brand-new Lausanne Arena, which only opened in fall 2019 and became home to Lausanne HC. Led by Head Coach Patrick Fischer, the Swiss national team will play all its games in Zurich. Cooly is back again too In spite of the huge number of international superstars, the mascot is the secret star of the 2020 IIHF ice hockey world championship. Famous mascot Cooly already won the hearts of fans eleven years ago and, after some time on the athletics track, will be back on the ice.
