Lausanne Tourisme launches a novel promotional video clip

18 September 2014

On the lookout for new technologies, particularly in the area of new media, Lausanne Tourisme asserts its pioneering spirit through the launch of an interactive video clip to promote the town's tourism. By choosing Lausanne artist Pierrick Destraz to carry the story line, the tourist office aims to seduce an urban and trendy audience by showing an unusual image of the destination thanks to a humorous and surprising film.

Of course, Lausanne can boast many attractions: a cultural offer that rivals large European cities, annual international sports events, an extensive array of shops and restaurants, night life that is renowned far and wide, a dynamic economic and scientific environment, as well as a breathtaking natural setting. However these many assets need to be communicated on supports tailored to new audiences. That is why Lausanne Tourisme has wished to surprise by offering an unusual media that will leave no one – Lausanne citizen or tourist – unmoved.

A Lausanne personality for the story line

The Lausanne tourist office chose Pierrick Destraz to act in its new touristic promotional clip. This native Lausanne musician who dumbfounds French television shows with his unorthodox rock group and knocks himself out as columnist on Couleur 3, jumped at the opportunity of joining the adventure. He explained he was inspired by the scenario imagined by Lausanne Tourisme and shot by the fledging film production company messieurs.ch – also from Lausanne! He added his own particular brand of humour by writing the script.

We follow him through the Olympic Capital in which he performs in order to present its many facets. Astride one of the lions that ornate the Palais de Justice (Law Courts) steps in Montbenon, discussing local produce with a vegetable farmer, rowing on the Sauvabelin lake… Pierrick takes malicious pleasure in distorting the perhaps too polished image that tourists may have of our clean and tidy town.

Interactive video, a revolutionary media

To seduce the urban and trendy tourist, Lausanne Tourisme decided to bank on the totally innovative technology of interactive video based on the open source software Treehouse. The user plays an active role in the scenario, first by choosing between English and French, summer and winter (from end of January), then by roaming in the video according to his or her areas of interest. The experience is perfectly reproduced on tablets and smartphones, and can be easily shared on all social media platforms.

This is also the benefit of the technology in terms of diffusion. Lausanne Tourisme is counting on a buzz to ensure a broad dissemination of the video clip and reach the highest number of potential tourists. Discover now “Lausanne Interactive City Tour” and do share the video!
