The “Lausanne La nuit” association, consisting of some 20 establishments, would certainly not say otherwise: the abundance of evening venues and events is one of the many assets of the Vaudois capital, particularly for visiting tourists. Entertainment venues reflect the town: multigenerational and intercultural. From the age of 18, night owls have an embarrassment of riches, with dance floors swaying to the beat of Latino, techno, dance, house, ambient, eighties and rock music, not to mention the festivals and concerts appearing regularly on the annual calendar of events.
Some clubs have acquired a name for themselves beyond the borders of Switzerland, from Paris to Ibiza, an example being the Mad Club, which introduced acid house to the Vaudois capital. Launched in 1985 and voted best club in Switzerland in 2014, each of its five floors sets a different scene, with the main dance floor opening its doors to the greatest DJs of the moment, from David Guetta to Ricardo Villalobos. The D! Club, another great performance venue in Lausanne, hosts promising musicians as well as internationally acclaimed artists in an electro ambiance. In recent years, nightlife in Lausanne has also enjoyed a revival with the development of the Flon quarter, which has become THE place to be seen, with its trendy restaurants, bars and cafés, its boutiques and art galleries, its hotel, its beach in summer and its ice rink in winter.
Every evening in Lausanne offers a set of habitual or unusual events. Far from competing with one another, these establishments have succeeded in finding their own niche in the evening and late-night scene. Whether it’s the Flon quarter, Chauderon, Le Tunnel, Saint-François or the Rue Marterey, the doors of bars and clubs open into an electrifying ambiance, enhanced by the presence of countless students who have briefly abandoned Lausanne’s university campus.
The great advantage of nightlife in Lausanne lies in the fact that all these places can be reached on foot and it is easy to go from one to another on the same night. At weekends, public transport companies provide a late-night service – the Pyjama service – from the centre of Lausanne to over 40 communes in the canton of Vaud to ensure that revellers arrive safely home or back at their hotel.

The world of nighltife also has its Oscars, Césars and other awards. In 2014, the Swiss Nightlife Awards crowned the D! Club the “Best Big Club” in Switzerland. In the Top 5 Swiss Clubs 2014, Mad Club and D! Club came first and second respectively.
