I grew up in France and my two passions quickly came to light. I have a dual approach: artistic through photography and scientific through my engineering studies, but I rapidly learnt how to combine both by producing documentaries on all the issues that pop into my mind, as I am ever curious. Beyond understanding, I also want to be capable of explaining and passing on, and what could be better than photography and documentaries for that? During my studies at EPFL, I discovered a university on the cutting edge of technology that enabled me to learn a lot and experiment: going to see a nuclear reactor, working in an anechoic chamber as well as observing the infinitely small. All that fulfilled my curiosity. Today, I remain curious as well as motivated to create and share my vision of this magnificent region!
« For me, Lausanne is a city in the heart of one of the most beautiful regions in Europe, close to the Alps as well as the lakes. It’s a historical city as well as one on the leading edge of technology. It’s a dynamic, inspiring and yet quiet city. It’s a city where everyone can find what they wish for! »
In the heart of the magnificent Lausanne University campus, between the river and the green spaces, is a rather strange building: the Vortex. This circular building is a must see during any visit to Lausanne: designed as accommodation for UNIL and EPFL students, it is structured around a 2.8-kilometre spiral walkway that accesses all the student rooms. You can nevertheless reach the 8th floor by lift to get to one of the friendliest bars in Lausanne, Le Perchoir. A large terrace, sunset, view over the lake, food and especially quite low prices, and sometimes even concerts – what more could you ask for?
At the end of St-Sulpice, at the Débarcadère Park, begins a small path that seems quite mysterious. It runs alongside the lake between the magnificent lakeside houses and the small wild beaches. Following it, we arrive at St-Sulpice beach that has remained almost entirely wild. Between the forest and the long, white sandy beaches, this place will delight the adventurous souls who wish to get off the beaten tracks while remaining close to Lausanne.
If you wish to gain height in Lausanne, head to the Cathedral. After a few dozen metres of elevation in the small streets of the old town, here you are in the Cité, at the foot of the Cathedral. It’s now time to climb the steps that lead to the top of the belfry. From there, you’ll have a 360° view over Lausanne, as well as on the Cathedral’s bells. One important tip: leave before they ring!
It’s got to be one of my favourite places in the region. Just beyond Lausanne, heading towards Montreux and a few minutes away by train. The hillsides are covered in terraced vineyards and the walks there offer a spectacular view over the lake and the setting sun. If you’re tempted by a refreshing drink, don’t hesitate to go to the Deck, a terrace that undoubtedly has the best view in the canton. Just what you need to spend a fab summer evening!
