I’ve been obsessed with art and classical dance since I was a child, so I can't miss a cultural event in the region, whether it’s an exhibition, a play or a ballet performance. I certainly love to nourish my soul, but I also love to nourish my stomach, so you're likely to find me in one of my favourite wine bars or heading off to discover a new restaurant.
« My city, where do I begin? It’s incredibly diverse, you can start off your day with brunch, view a classical or contemporary art exhibition in the city centre, stroll down to the lake for cocktails, and end your day with a theatre performance or at one of the city’s many bars. You’ll never find yourself at a loss for something to do. »
«The healthy South African bowl that’s simply perfect for a lunch break. Every time, it’s an explosion of different flavours, and tastes and combinations that are unsuspected, at least to my Swiss taste buds. And don’t even think of leaving without a slice of carrot cake!»
«Open since last October, the Fine Arts Museum, an architectural masterpiece in my view, presides over the museum hub, Lausanne’s new arts district. Named Plateforme 10, we look forward to seeing it completed with the Photography Museum and the MUDAC. I enjoy strolling along the arcades before going for a snack at the Nabi, the MCBA’s restaurant.»
«A small art gallery located in the Flon garages, it presents contemporary Swiss artists each more original than the other. We don’t miss a single vernissage, all the more so as the owners are fantastic, before ending the evening with a drink at the Flon.»
«One of my haunts. A glass of wine, a really original cocktail, a small tapas or even several, it’s a trip round the world for the taste buds and the perfect place for an afterwork with plenty of nibbles.»
«It has become the reference in contemporary theatre in the area thanks to its director Vincent Baudriller. Its programming well outside my comfort zone has taught me to appreciate contemporary theatre and its highly current themes.»
«Simply because they are the best sushi in Lausanne and that the deli is packed full of original Japanese products, among which delicious gyozas and mixes for Okonomyaki that are easy to make at home.»
«Le Vestibule, known as the city's clandestine bar, is modelled after a speakeasy from the '20s. Once you've discovered its secret doors, you can take a seat on one of the comfy sofas and sip a delicious little cocktail. However, making your choice is difficult – each new drink is more original than the last. In summer you can even sit on a terrace with a view of the cathedral while reading one of the books plucked from the shelves lining the bar.»
«Lausanne has the great good fortune to have its own dance company - and one of the best! The Béjart Ballet Lausanne immortalises the talent of the choreographer Maurice Béjart. I never tire of seeing his greatest creations such as Le Presbytère, Ballet for life, Brel et Barbara or The 7 Greek dances.»
«It’s quite impossible to leave the cutest boutique in Lausanne without buying a little bracelet or a pretty ring. The boutique sells a range of jewellery brands and accessories as well as delicate lingerie.»
«This concept store specialises in the work of Swiss designers. You will be spoilt for choice between design accessories, a mask which is soooo 2020 for example, a unique work by its creator, a delicious amaretto blanc Adriatico or a delectable slab of Orfève chocolate.»
«The best 100% Swiss brand of natural cosmetics. Bars of soap smelling absolutely delicious, dry hydrating oils bewitchingly perfumed and, in keeping with 2020, verbena sanitizing gels which do not dry one’s hands.»
«I return there time and time again just for their quite exceptional mafalde alla “carbonara” di pistacchio. But diners find it almost impossible to choose between the pasta specialities, each one more original than the other and which leave the usual “spag bols” or spaghetti carbonara far behind.»
«Aperitif heaven in the Flon District. Not only do they pull local wines directly from the vat, but they also have a cheese bar!!! A piece of Gruyère to go with your glass of Chasselas – what more could you want??»
«Since 1871, the Lausanne Opera transports Lausanners thanks to lyric art, ballet, singing competitions and a partnership with the University of Music. Every year provides new auditory and visual marvels that fluctuate between tradition and modernity.»
«The new Italian trattoria in the Riponne neighbourhood that radiates the joy of living from the South of Italy. It will be hard to choose between fried paccheri, burrata, pasta with truffle or the delicious Neapolitan pizzas. But why choose, after all??»
«This former Bel-Air church transformed into a cultural centre welcomes an eclectic audience since 2004. A small, intimist theatre, it hosts politically active and educational plays, comedians as well as dance performances by Lausanne companies.»
«The paradise for Italian delicacies. Fresh pasta, an endless choice of cheeses, biscotti, wines and grappa, not forgetting the essential al tartufo products, there is everything you need to bring back the delicious savours of Italy.»
«Both a dance school and a professional company, the Igokat Centre is led by two former dancers of the Béjart Ballet, and is the reference classical and modern dance school in Lausanne. Kathryn Bradney is also the director of the Prix de Lausanne, a major ballet competition.»
