Where?
Chemin de Pierrefleur 72
Don’t be misled by the name - there’s nothing desert-like about the park. Just the opposite! In fact, it’s water feature is the principle attraction of this charming park which is an oasis of green in this part of the city

There’s nothing desert-like in this park, quite the opposite! Its monumental elongated water feature makes you feel you’re in a different world. For me, it’s a soothing place conducive to daydreaming. Anecdotally, it owes its poetic name to the current of Romanticism that was in vogue at the turn of the 19th century. There’s no better example of the “oh, how far away from everything I am, but I have a huge estate, so I’m ok” attitude.

The Parc du Désert forms the boundary between the city and the countryside. Although on the edge of Lausanne, it is well worth the trip. Its charm starts to work as soon as the visitor sets foot in the park, and the water feature extending into the distance like a Dutch canal prompts the visitor to pause and ponder. A moment of peace almost interrupted by the croaking of a frog, reminding us that Nature is alive and well in Lausanne
