Through an exhibition and a rich cultural programme, “Alea” offers a reflection on life courses. In the light of the lives of men and women of antiquity, it invites us to question our own freedom of choice and action, at a time when equality is more than ever at the heart of the debate.
In the 2nd century AD, the Roman Empire was home to over 50 million people. Not everyone led the same life. Men, women, poor, rich, citizens, slaves... Society was made up of a multitude of social categories. Each category entails different rights, duties and privileges.
The “Alea” exhibition invites you to follow the members of a fictional Gallo-Roman family and share with them some of the milestones in their lives. The matron Alba, the slave Aptus, the young Flora or her cousin Secundus: who will you accompany on your visit?
