Next June, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne will offer a series of performances imbued with travel, colour and discovery with “La Route de la soie”, a vast choreographic fresco imagined by Maurice Béjart, sees the choreographer return to his explorations of the Orient, revealing a musical treasure that spans the immensity of Asia.

Guided by the spirit of the traveller - somewhere between Marco Polo and Ibn Battûta - the performance leads audiences from the shores of Venice to the far reaches of China, crossing the fascinating lands of Turkey, Iran and Mongolia. Each stage unfolds its own colour, atmosphere and language, composing a danced odyssey where poets, roses, shamans and sorceresses meet.

Carried by Vivaldi’s Venetian music, the Turkish sounds of Kudsi Erguner and influences drawn from across the Orient, this rich layered work blends ancient traditions with the essence of Béjart’s choreographic voice.

This “Route de la soie” invites audiences to travel with the Béjart Ballet Lausanne to the place where Maurice Béjart’s spirit resonated most deeply: at the crossroads of the great civilisations.
