Film by Liliane de Kermadec, France, 1975, 117 min, Isabelle Huppert, Delphine Seyrig, Marc EyraudScreening presented by Sarah Lombardi, director of the Collection of Art Brut. Digitally restored copy.Film set photographer and director, Liliane de Kermadec charts the singular destiny of Aloïse Corbaz (1886-1964), portrayed by Isabelle Huppert and Delphine Seyrig at two stages of her life. Between biographical reality and poetic evocation, the film follows the journey of a woman whose romantic aspirations and free spirit clash with the norms of her time. Institutionalized for schizophrenia for nearly half a century, Aloïse unfolds in her drawings and paintings a flamboyant universe where romantic passions and romanticist visions intermingle. This evocation restores the power of a work born on the margins and become one of the most singular of Art Brut. The film was restored in 2023 by the Hiventy laboratory with the French Cinematheque and the Swiss Cinematheque. This performance earned Isabelle Huppert her first César nomination in the Best Supporting Role category.
