What to do in Lausanne in January?

The new year can begin now! We’ve made loads of new resolutions (we’ve even promised ourselves we’ll keep them for more than 2 weeks) and are ready to get the year off to a flying start. Let yourself be inspired by our January bucket list and discover how to kick off the year 2024 in style.

Our January bucket list

Eating a fondue in one of the Café du Grütli’s gondolas

Café du Grütli is at the beginning of the paved pedestrian street called La Mercerie near Place de la Palud. It has welcomed guests since 1849 and offers a quiet, friendly and out-of-time setting. Guests mostly come for its fondues but all dishes are delicious and can be enjoyed with a glass of excellent wine.

Marvelling at the Cirque du Soleil’s show “OVO” at the Vaudoise aréna

Cirque du Soleil is back in Lausanne with OVO, a show buzzing with energy and acrobatics. OVO is a colourful intrusion into a day of the life of insects, a non-stop explosion of energy and movement.

Getting the year off to a great start by organising a snowball fight at the Chalet-à-Gobet

When snow starts to fall, this is THE place to be in Lausanne: located only 30 minutes away from the city centre by public transport, Chalet-à-Gobet is the perfect spot for snowball fights and sledding!

Making the most of a cold winter day to get warm around a delicious brunch

Particularly popular among inhabitants, whether taken with friends or as a family, the brunch is an opportunity to discover high-quality local products. Booking is advised.

Challenging ourselves by taking part in Lausanne’s cross-country event

Some 800 runners and several national teams race around this 1-kilometre circuit in the grounds of Bourget Park beside the lake. Open to elite and ordinary runners alike, the cross-country race offers distances ranging from 2 to 8 km.

Admiring the feats of the Prix de Lausanne dancers

This international competition for young dancers, aged 15 to 18, attracts the best dance talent for almost a week. The event is a real springboard for these young people, who attend classes, rehearsals and coaching sessions with the biggest names in the discipline.
