A district that blends history and innovation, architecture and artistic expression, and that is today an unmissable spot in Lausanne. What is there to see and do in that trendy Lausanne area? We’re giving you some insider info!
Wandering in the Flon’s lanes, you discover boutiques, cafés, new trendy addresses, but also much more. The Flon district has been transformed in recent years to become an area of artistic expression. Artists’ workshops and studios, architect firms and art galleries have opened in the heart of these former warehouses. And of course, you can sense that on the streets. ? By looking upwards, you’ll discover frescoes on the walls of some buildings in the middle of modern constructions, such as the Pépinières. A treat for the eyes! And in the Voie du Chariot, Les Cubes are what attracts attention. An outdoor art gallery that intrigues the enquiring mind. Go and take a look.
What about eating? At the Flon, you’ll be sure to find something to your taste. Amongst the (very) many restaurants, Chez Moi is the place for homelike sweet or savoury pancakes (yum! ?). A stone throw from there, Istanbul Grill & More reinterprets doner kebabs, Cipriano Wine & Ham takes on a discovery of Italy, the Tao offers a trip to Asia and the Tokyo to taste Japanese cuisine: sushi and Teppanyaki are on the menu.

What will you choose?
After this world-food gourmet break, it’s time for some shopping. Sports attire at Trend Mania, accessories and clothes at Maniak, the temple for goths… Boutiques are plenty. And for shoes, you just have to pay a visit to Pomp it up or Pompes Funèbres.
As for fans of vintage, they can meet at the Port-Franc gallery to enjoy a coffee and rummage around for retro furniture and decoration objects in this true Aladdin’s cave.
The Flon is also a meeting place for Lausanne revellers. Bars, pubs, terraces, etc. – at nightfall the neighbourhood comes to life and Lausanne citizens gather for drinks. For the sportier, the place to go to is the Bulldog Bar, a sports bar with giant screens, snooker and darts to keep up with all the football, hockey and basketball matches. For a nice beer, the King Size or the Tacos are the places to be for afterworks. Local people also meet for a cocktail at the Punk Bar or the Nomade before setting off to the HYPE, the Mad or, slightly further afield, the D! to dance the night away.
At the Flon, you’ll also find a cinema, a bowling alley and, during the winter, an outdoor ice rink!
Don’t forget to try the famous see-through toilets that become opaque when occupied. Quite an experience ?
We did tell you that the Flon is Lausanne’s trendy district. So where shall we meet?
