The characters from our favourite series visit Lausanne

Binge-watching series would almost lead us to believe that their characters, whether endearing or unpleasant, truly exist. Based on that, we imagined where we would take them if they were visiting Lausanne. There’s no doubt we know how to welcome our guests in the Olympic Capital!

1. Bree Van de Kamp (Desperate Housewives) to Cuppin’s

Bree Van de Kamp is rather like the irritating friend who does everything better than everyone else and is always immaculately groomed. All that is reflected in her elaborately blow-dried red hair, without a single strand out of place (yes, even on rainy days… that level of perfection is practically a superpower). More than anything, Bree knows how to welcome new arrivals in Wisteria Lane with a basket full of goodies. If she was stopping off in Lausanne, we would take her to Cuppin’s so she could taste their sumptuous cupcakes that are pretty close to perfection. According to us, she would be green with envy. No, Bree, no need to insist, we won’t give you the recipe.

2. Joe Goldberg (YOU) to the Palais de Rumine

We’re not too sure we want to welcome him to Lausanne. All the same, there would be loads to do here for a lover of literature! The moment he arrives, we would drag him to the legendary library of the Palais de Rumine to browse through the books. It’s an opportunity to walk through the magnificent hall, which is bound to impress him. However, Joe, things don’t happen your way in Lausanne: no one will end up locked up in a scary cage in a dark basement.

3. Laura Ingalls (The Little House on the Prairie) to the Hermitage Park

That series does go back a bit, but we can imagine it as if that moment had actually taken place: Laura Ingalls tearing down the slope of the Hermitage Park through the tall grass, with the lake and Lausanne Cathedral in the background. It would even be the opportunity to shoot new opening credits, in which her younger sister would be careful not to fall down this time (how hard can it be?).

4. Lucas Scott (One Tree Hill) to Vidy

As for us, we have a wee preference for Lucas, but if you want to take Nathan, that works too. In any case, we would head to the Vidy basketball court, perfectly located on the shores of Lake Geneva, to score a few baskets. Besides, we would happily watch the sunset with him after giving it all during an intense match (casting Peyton aside!). And why not perform a duet of the famous theme song (I doooon’t wanna be anything other than what I’ve been trying to be latelyyyy).

5. Emily Cooper (Emily in Paris) to the Cité

Dear Emily, not only in Paris can you get lost in small streets packed with charm. Come with us for a stroll in the Cité, our modest answer to Montmartre. We’re sure you’ll fall in love with this hyper instagrammable neighbourhood, and we even guarantee you a record number of likes for the photo of this spot we adore. To finish our city tour, we’ll take you to the restaurant Sardine, a discovery you should like. And who knows, there might be a Gabriel hiding in the kitchens…

6. Joey Tribbiani (Friends) to the Café de Grancy

When it comes to cosy atmospheres, the Café de Grancy can definitely hold its own compared to the Central Perk! We’d enjoy taking Joey there (we chose him because we’re sure to have a good time, aren’t we?) and introduce him to all our mates in those headquarters of the neighbourhood under the station. We would put the world to rights, comfortably seated in the cosy, cocooning armchairs of the café, a small bottle of local beer in hand.

7. Daphne Basset (Bridgerton) to the Brasserie de Montbenon

We can picture ourselves having tea with Daphne at the Brasserie de Montbenon, and prolonging that lovely moment with a long stroll in the park. It would give us time to debate the latest news in Lady Whistledown’s scandal sheet. However, we warn you, Daphne, if you wish to continue your walk in the steep streets of Lausanne, your 19th-century style dress might not be the most appropriate attire.

8. Captain Stubing (The Love Boat) on a CGN boat

There’s no doubt about it, we would have a deal for Captain Stubing on a visit to Lausanne: to trade the Pacific Princess for a sumptuous CGN Belle Epoque boat. At the end of the day, a little change never hurt anyone. After so many years roaming the Pacific Ocean, he would set sail on the fresh waters of Lake Geneva.
