With its charming alleyways and iconic places, Lausanne is a real paradise for upgrading your Instagram feed! We’ll reveal our favourite spots to you so you can capture the city in your camera or phone.

1.  The Bessières Bridge and the Cathedral

A real must-see in Lausanne; immortalize it from the beginning of the Pont Bessières. As you leave the metro, you will see the viewpoint close to the side of the Swiss Wine Hotel. The view of the legendary Lausanne cathedral is breathtaking whether by day or night! And because you can never have enough, don’t miss the climb to the top of the cathedral belfry: the 360° view of the city is so beautiful that you will quickly forget the 224 steps to the top.

2.The market steps

The market steps which lead up to the Cathedral from the Place de la Palud are clearly a location not to be missed! To reach the spot for the perfect angle, climb the famous steps: once you reach the top you will be rewarded by the opportunity of a photo of this emblematic scene with its typical small houses in the background.

3. The Cathedral from the Parc de l’Hermitage

The Cathedral again, yes, but from a completely different angle this time! If you want a picture worthy of the greatest instagrammers, head off to the Parc de l’Hermitage located north of Lausanne. A true haven of peace, only a few minutes from downtown! And once there, why not combine your photo-shoot with a visit to the Hermitage Foundation?

4. The Rôtillon district

Thanks to its colourful houses that give it a southern village feel, the Rôtillon district is definitely a place not to be missed if you want an ideal way to complete your feed! And the small designer shops scattered throughout the neighbourhood clearly give you a second good reason to go there.

5. EPFL and its architecture

As budding photographers, we don’t know where to start on this building! Thanks to its exceptional architecture, this world-famous seat of learning is full of ultra-instagrammable possibilities. For example, this magnificent multi-coloured light well in the metro underpass. We’re fans!

6. The lake and Aeolus from Ouchy

Aaah, Ouchy, its seagulls, its sea breeze and its turquoise waters… A true Instagram paradise: you only have to walk along the quayside to feel like filling your phone’s memory with views of the mountains and the lake. For a typical Lausanne photograph, go there at sunset to photograph Aeolus, the iconic sculpture on the lake shore.

8.Tour Galfetti

But where is that mysterious keyhole that will make your followers green with envy? It’s the Galfetti Tower, located just after the Chauderon Bridge! The famous keyhole shot reveals itself if you look upwards from the centre of the building. By the way, this spot is one of the favourites of Lausanne’s Dominik, l’archi-photo-fan!

10. The building that houses le Pointu

New York, New York… Oh no, sorry, we’re still in Lausanne. But between you and me this building next to the Place de la Riponne really reminds us of the Big Apple’s Flatiron building. That makes it the perfect building for Instagram – and for our taste buds, since it’s home to Le Pointu, one of our favourite trendy restaurants.
