The best place to chill in Lausanne? A terrace… but not any terrace! We’ve drawn up a list of the best addresses to stop and relax. Now, it’s up to you to spot the one that suits you best.

Fabled terrace

The Royal Savoy’s Summer Brasserie

To our great delight the Royal Savoy, a legendary 5* hotel in Lausanne, has at last re-opened its Summer Brasserie. Seasonal dishes can be enjoyed on the terrace overlooking the hotel’s magnificent gardens.  A real oasis in the heart of the city! The Royal Savoy takes pride in using regional products in its kitchens: trout from our lakes or its signature entrecôte steak prepared from the best Swiss beef …. a real treat for the taste-buds in relaxing and convivial surroundings.

Terrace with a view

La Brasserie Montbenon

A romantic building erected in 1908, La Brasserie de Montbenon offers a terrace with a view over Montbenon Park. The beautiful gardens provide a unique point of view over Lake Geneva and the Alps. They serve a choice of sophisticated dishes typical of brasserie-style cuisine with a touch of modernity. We love the vol-au-vent, marrow bone, homemade cordon bleu and the chocolate tart, not forgetting the specialities made from local products, such as the smoked trout verrine and whitefish from Lake Geneva.

Le Lacustre

A breathtaking view over Lake Geneva and a Californian atmosphere: those are the keys to the success of Le Lacustre bar and restaurant. Not to mention their delicious pizzas baked in a wood oven! Le Lacustre is THE terrace for this summer. At the end of Quai Jean-Pascal Delamuraz.

Kid-friendly terrace

La Folie Voltaire

That cool haven is located in the middle of Mon-Repos Park, in the town centre. You can sip a delicious homemade quince cordial, enjoy a snack made from local seasonal products or savour an ice cream while keeping an eye on your munchkins’ exploits on the swings or in the sandpit.

Terrace on the waterfront

The Watergate’s terrace is the hot meeting place by the lake on summer days. The building is a legacy of the Lausanne 1964 World Exhibition. You reach it on foot through Vidy Park. The view is incredible, and the place carries a holiday-like vibe: boats, swimming, the cries of seagulls… You can savour sophisticated Italian cuisine, but we have to admit the absolutely amazing pizza with Nutella is our guilty pleasure!

Charming terraces

Le Café de l’Hôtel de Ville

Located on the Place de la Palud, next to the town hall, we love taking a seat to savour a gorgeous salad made from local and seasonal produce, or stopping for a coffee or homemade fruit juice and chatting to our neighbour while watching the incessant ballet of passers-by.

P.S. The hamburger menu is to die for!

Les Arches

Located under the Grand-Pont, at the Place de l’Europe, Les Arches is the summer’s terrace-bar for afterworks. Every afternoon, Lausanners meet there to enjoy the sun or for a drink on the way back from the office. A unique setting that you’re going to love.

Bohemian terrace

Le Petit Bar

Its terrace located between the Cathedral and the Rue de la Mercerie is perfect for a short break. Sip a cool fruit juice in the sun to fill up on vitamins! You can also taste the homemade patisseries, as well as the salads and soups prepared by the mistress of the house. A Bohemian spot just the way we like them.

Panoramic terrace

The Tom Café

This restaurant and café located on the highest floor of the Olympic Museum offers a unique panoramic view over Lake Geneva and the Alps. You can quench your thirst there, after an interactive visit of the exhibitions on the history of the Olympic Games or just go there to savour their famous weekend brunch. Everything is delicious and everyone knows it, so heed our advice and book ahead 😉

Countryside terrace

It’s our small oasis of nature in town. The Esquisse’s terrace faces the Museum of the Fondation de l’Hermitage that presents exceptional exhibitions of major artists such as Signac, Miro or Basquiat. We go there to bask in the sun after viewing the latest exhibition at the Hermitage or simply to sip a fruit juice while watching the children play in the adjacent park. L’Esquisse is located in the heart of the Hermitage estate, a natural extension of the Sauvabelin woods that reach the centre of Lausanne.

Sunbasking terrace

La Jetée de la Compagnie

It’s the ideal spot to meet friends by the lakeside, with a beach holiday atmosphere created by the deck chairs, petanque lane and waterfront deck. The pop-up bar offers original drinks such as Opaline juices, Vivi Cola or Chari Tea, as well as local snacks: whitefish mousse, local tome cheese as well as grilled meat. Best place to get a tan!

It’s the delightful terrace hidden under the Bessières Bridge, a meeting place for summer evenings, afterworks and sunny afternoons over a craft beer or a cordial.
