The best place to chill in Lausanne? A terrace… but not any terrace! We’ve drawn up a list of the best addresses to stop and relax. Now, it’s up to you to spot the one that suits you best.

Terraces with a view

La Brasserie Montbenon

A romantic building erected in 1908, La Brasserie de Montbenon offers a terrace with a view over Montbenon Park. The beautiful gardens provide a unique point of view over Lake Geneva and the Alps. They serve a choice of sophisticated dishes typical of brasserie-style cuisine with a touch of modernity.

Le Lacustre

A breathtaking view over Lake Geneva and a Californian atmosphere: those are the keys to the success of Le Lacustre bar and restaurant. Not to mention their delicious pizzas baked in a wood oven! Le Lacustre is THE terrace for this summer. At the end of Quai Jean-Pascal Delamuraz.

Charming terraces

Le Café de l’Hôtel de Ville

Located on the Place de la Palud, next to the town hall, we love taking a seat to savour a gorgeous salad made from local and seasonal produce, or stopping for a coffee or homemade fruit juice and chatting to our neighbour while watching the incessant ballet of passers-by.

Les Arches

Located under the Grand-Pont, at the Place de l’Europe, Les Arches is the summer’s terrace-bar for afterworks. Every afternoon, Lausanners meet there to enjoy the sun or for a drink on the way back from the office. A unique setting that you’re going to love.

Countryside terraces

L’Esquisse

It’s our small oasis of nature in town. The Esquisse’s terrace faces the Museum of the Fondation de l’Hermitage that presents exceptional exhibitions of major artists such as Signac, Miro or Basquiat. We go there to bask in the sun after viewing the latest exhibition at the Hermitage or simply to sip a fruit juice while watching the children play in the adjacent park. L’Esquisse is located in the heart of the Hermitage estate, a natural extension of the Sauvabelin woods that reach the centre of Lausanne.

It’s the ideal spot to meet friends by the lakeside, with a beach holiday atmosphere created by the deck chairs, petanque lane and waterfront deck. Best place to get a tan!

Secret terraces

Les Grandes Roches

It’s the delightful terrace hidden under the Bessières Bridge, a meeting place for summer evenings, afterworks and sunny afternoons over a craft beer or a cordial.
