Summer is now over! Temperatures have fallen, outdoor swimming pools have closed and it’s soon time to get our coats out.

1. Autumn colours

When autumn comes, Lausanne is transformed. Autumn colours gently take over the city, and it’s what makes that season so beautiful. As every Lausanner will tell you, the city and its surroundings are breathtaking. To capture the best photos, head to Lavaux for a stroll in the midst of vineyards that have taken on golden hues. Not to forget Lausanne parks, another place to be to make the most of an Indian summer.

2. The unmissable sunsets

In autumn in Lausanne, it’s not only the leaves of trees that change colour and brighten up the city. If you wish to contemplate a true autumn show in Lausanne, head to Ouchy to get the best view of the glorious sunsets. You’ll be amazed!

The sun sets the sky ablaze and the lake sparkles. Lausanners love admiring the show and often do so at apéro time on the lakeside or from an establishment with a view.

3. Sweet treats

And for those, we have our special addresses! The Barbare is a compulsory stop to warm up with a luscious hot chocolate, then there’s Noz to savour a delicious “carac” (a typically Swiss tart filled with a chocolate ganache and topped with green icing) and Aux Merveilleux de Fred to treat ourselves to delightful pastries.

4. Fondue is back on the menu

We had put it to the side to take care of our figure for the summer. It’s finally time to let ourselves be tempted by a cheese fondue. In Lausanne, many restaurants serve that local dish. Among the long list, we’ll name the Pinte Besson, the Café du Grütli, the Chalet Suisse, the Café Romand and the Evêché… Make your choice!

5. The Lausanne Marathon

Every year in autumn, the more athletic await the Lausanne Marathon impatiently. The event gathers runners from the world over in the Olympic Capital for a unique moment.

10 km, semi-marathon or marathon, the race takes place in a cheerful atmosphere and follows a route along the shores of Lake Geneva. In short: something to add to the bucket list!

6. Culture entices us to go out

The return of autumn is also an excellent opportunity to make the most of the many museums in Lausanne and the cultural activities that abound at this time of year. This autumn, we suggest: the “Thalassa, Thalassa! L’imaginaire de la mer” exhibition at the MCBA, the Daido Moriyama retrospective at Photo Elysée and the much-appreciated Nuit des Musées Lausanne – Pully.

7. Spas for a luxury pampering

Yes, we’ve said it, the cold weather is back. To get warm in autumn, we can then enjoy the spas. Where? At the Lausanne Palace, the Beau Rivage or the Royal Savoy. A fantastic day in perspective, in a dream setting! Breathe in deeply, relax… You’ve only to allow yourself to be pampered.

8. It’s game season at last!

Autumn is also the season of hunting. Spaetzle, red cabbage, chestnuts and game, these dishes are only on the menu for a few months of the year. So as soon as the season begins, we rush to the Lausanne restaurants to make the most of it. If you’d like to try a few good addresses in Lausanne and the surrounding area, we suggest the Auberge de l’Abbaye de Montheron or the Croix d’Ouchy. Bon appétit!
